SAFETY

PREPARE AND PREVENT…

Safety is more than a buzzword at Matcon, it is a pillar of our culture. Just as the company started as a father-and-son venture some 18 years ago, Matcon is still one big family and we all look out for each other like brothers and sisters. Our main priority is to make sure our teammates arrive home to their families safely, each and every night, without exception.

…DON’T REPAIR AND REPENT

There are no “minor” injuries, so the most minimal incidents are investigated and addressed. Safety is a foundation. If safety slips, nothing else can stand.

IT ALL STARTS WITH TRAINING

Every new Matcon hire must complete a rigorous safety orientation before their boots ever touch a job site. And all Matcon team members are required to pass a 10-hour OSHA training course – even if they have a desk job. Supervisors, Superintendents and Projects Managers are held to a higher standard and must complete a 30-hour OSHA training course.

Matcon also requires our team members to renew their OSHA certifications after five years. We believe too much changes in five years, and safety must keep up (even though OSHA does not require any kind of renewal to maintain a certification).

Additionally, our team members must complete 60+ hours of continuing safety education every year. You see, for Matcon safety isn’t something you learn about once and then move on – safety is an essential part of our daily routine, just like lacing up our boots.

“Our mission is to empower everyone on the job site to take any measures necessary to ensure the safest possible working environment, and to feel accountable for their co-workers’ well-being.”

MATCON TRAINING ACADEMY

Slated to open in 2022, The Matcon Training Academy will be part of the annex planned at Matcon HQ in Tampa, FL. The state-of-the-art facility will have classrooms and training facilities for new employees as well as continuing education and specialty certifications. The facility will also be used to preach the gospel of safety to our sub-contractors – because everyone we send to a site or who collaborates with us on a project must be familiar with our safety standards and prove that they can live up to to them.
