THE LATEST NEWS FROM MATCON
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT AND CEO
It’s time for another update as we head into the final stretch of 2021. There are so many things going on I hardly know where to begin. All of our big projects are moving along! Southern Oaks in Plant City, 1200 & 5th in Gainesville, The Hillsborough Resource Recovery Facility, the Verizon Data Center and Yuengling are just a few. A big “thank you” to all those teams for their hard work. Also, big kudos to Mohit Patel for a job well done on Medtronics in Puerto Rico!
And back at HQ we’ve been on fire bringing in those next contracts to keep the teams busy. We’ve been involved in bids and RFPs for Disney, Modera Tower, and Elegance Plaza along with several others – and we are in the running for all of them! We’ll let you know more as soon as we can.
The end of the year also is a time to reflect on the last 12 months, and I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to say how deeply appreciative we are of all your hard work and dedication. 2021 is on track to be our biggest year ever and we couldn’t do it with you, our co-workers and teammates. You should all be proud of your accomplishments this year and look forward to the Holidays with the satisfaction of a job well done.
Sincerely,
Derek Mateos

NEWLY AWARDED PROJECTS
TEAM UPDATE
The last few months have been one of the periods of greatest growth Matcon has ever experienced. To keep up with the increased number of projects and growing workload we have been hiring like never before. Our headcount is now over 200 and we expect to continue hiring for much needed help in the coming months. Tell anyone in your network that wants to be part of this explosive growth to send a resume to hr@matcon.build.
Promotions
Congratulations to those team members who earned promotions in the last three months. You are proof that hard work and dedication pay off!

Employee Referral Program
Matcon Construction is always looking for good people, and you can help. Research has shown, and our own experience supports, that new hires who come into a company through employee referrals are excellent contributors, stay with the company longer and are more cost-effective recruits.
That's where you come in! If you know someone who would be a good addition to The Matcon family, you may be awarded a referral bonus of $500.00 (less taxes) if you refer a candidate, he or she is hired and completes a 90-day probation period.*
*Offer valid for management or executive positions only.
PROJECT UPDATES
There’s a lot going on so it can be hard for any of us to keep up with everything going on at every project. Here’s a quick overview of the progress at some of our sites right now.
Southern Oaks
We’ve finished pouring 191,000 sq. ft. of tilt panels (146 panels) but we still have many slabs, sidewalks and paving to pour before we wrap this project up in December.
1200 & 5th
We’re about half-way through this 12-month project in Gainesville, FL. It is a 473,000 sq. ft., 232 unit, 8 story luxury apartment building adjacent to the University of Florida campus.
Yuengling
We’re partnering with Miller Brothers Construction on this project for Yuengling in Tampa. We broke ground in march and will finish by the end of this year.
Orlando Magic Training Facility
We’ve been hard at work on this project since December 2020. We poured elevated decks and three swimming pools. Kudos to the 40 team members we have on the project!
USF Research Facility
This three-story, 120,000-square-foot building will house laboratory facilities, office and meeting space for innovators and both established and startup companies.
Hillsborough Resource Recovery Facility
The GC team is performing this tile wall modification project. We’re removing the existing 4” block veneer exterior wall and installing a new ¾” stucco system, including on a 67-foot elevator tower.
Hotel Lobby & Restaurant Renovation
Matcon was part of a local resort’s transformation for their 50th Anniversary. We renovated the lobby and transformed the restaurant on the first floor.
Jesuit High School Fine Arts Center
We are pouring structural concrete foundations, cast-in-place retaining walls, slabs on grade, elevated decks and elevated bond beams – a total of 1500 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete. We started in September will finish in 4-5 months.
SAFETY UPDATE
New additions to the Matcon Safety Team
We are nearing the end of the year, and our safety culture continues to evolve here at Matcon. There have been three new additions to the safety team recently, and I would like to introduce all of them to you.
Greg Williams joins the team with significant experience in the safety field. Having worked for a much larger GC, he brings to the table a great personality and a unique way to connect with the workers in the field.
Next, we have Ed Burkhart, who, much like Greg, comes with a background of working with much larger contractors. Ed is very detail-driven when it comes to getting everyone home safe at the end of the day. Having vast experience in concrete, he has helped the Gainesville project tremendously since his arrival.
Finally, there is me, Jordan Carlin. I come to Matcon after having served two major large GC’s working across the country. With experience building major projects from hospitals to major sporting venues, I bring a skillset and mindset to help Matcon achieve its safety culture goals.

THE GOAL:
Get Everyone home safely to their families every night
Speaking of safety culture, in my site visits and interactions, we need to work on holding each other accountable for our actions. Simple things like wearing minimal PPE are a problem we need to correct. We will never truly achieve our goal if we cannot fix something as simple as wearing safety glasses, gloves, or high-viz vests/t-shirt.
As you read this, please take a moment to think about why you come to work every day. I, like most of you, have a family at home and financial responsibilities. Now, take a moment and think how those things would be taken care of if you got injured, disabled, or worse. How would your family be able to take care of themselves? Matcon does not ask you to do things to make your job harder; we ask you so you can go home to the ones you love each day. Accountability for ourselves and each other will help us move the needle when it comes to the culture shift. Let’s set a goal for ourselves as a team to make it through the Holidays and into 2022 injury-free.
Sincerely,
Jordan Carlin
